Nobody wants more features

We live in a world of ‘more’, but do we really want that?

I was reading a Medium post this week and a section stood out, about where future opportunity lies. It verbalised some of my recent thinking.

From Medium post by Phil Lakin

Most people don’t wake up wanting more app features.

They want less chaos.

Less time clicking through tools. Less friction between thought and action. Less distraction and hijacking whilst getting something done.

They want things to just WORK.

Many of us builders tend to ask: ”How can I add more?”.

But the better question is “What can I remove?”. Or even “What friction can I remove?”.

Because the opportunity isn’t in giving people more to manage.

It’s in getting out of their way so they can actually get things done.

Every time I build something now, I’m thinking about this. Not “how can I make this more?” but “how can I make this so simple it disappears?”.

  • Hndmark: Mark it up. Ship the feedback. Move on.

  • Winnny: Log the win. See your progress. Feel good.

  • Soources: Get to the good stuff. Don’t wade through noise.

Simple and transformative.

The best tools aren’t the ones people spend time in. They’re the ones that solve the problem and get out of the way.

We’re all drowning in tools and tech that demands our attention.

Dashboards that need checking. Interfaces that need learning. Features that need configuring.

The opportunity now isn’t building another one of those.

Because nobody’s asking for more features or apps.

They’re asking for fewer headaches, more clarity.

That’s where I’m focused. What about you?

Talk soon,
